Thanked: 0curved razor?
I saw a very attractive old razor today at a reasonable price. It has a full hollow curved blade, about 9/16, I'd say. Will it very hard to hone? Are they more difficult to shave with? I'd like to buy it but only if I can get it shave ready without a lot of trouble. It seemed fairly sharp but I didn't try to shave arm hair or anything like that. Don't think the shop owner would have appreciated a bunch of hair on his counter.

Thanked: 13245Assuming that it is an intentional factory smile....
They are actually easier to shave with especially if you have a narrow face..
They are slightly more difficult to hone, you might wanna view David's 9 part honing video part 8 or 9 shows him honing a smiler....

The smilers I have are both about as easy to hone as anything else, they require a tiny bit of special attention but very little extra time. I just use a normal x stroke but make sure all parts of the blade touch, not a good explanation i know, but thats what works for me.
