    Default SS razor, which one?

I want to buy an SS razor, new or near mint, and am wondering which one to concentrate on. I guess the choice is between a Dovo, Puma or Henkels because I don't know of any other INOX razors. I'd like to stay below $200 if possible. Appreciate any advice.

Actually there are others floating around. Double Duck has a stainless and Dorko has one too. I sure there are others. I would guess many of the companies still making straights in the 1960s would probably have a stainless model. If you want more recent Dovo is probably the king of stainless razors. TI doesn't make em, never did.

You may want to take a look at this site:
Stain Resistant Razors : Shaving Shop - luxury classic shaving products - straight razors

You should find something suitable there.

C-Mon also made a great stainless razor - mine is one of my favorites.

Yesterday I received one of The Shaving Shop's NOS Otto Busch stainless Weltmeisters, and it looks quite nice. Haven't shaved with it yet but it honed up well.

Check out this review of the Dovo Renaissance.

I didn't think much of the razor before I got it, but after I got it, it rocked my world!

I thought that stainless straights are harder to strop then the carbon steel are? Making carbon steel better for those of us who are new to straight razors. Mine is a 5/8 Dovo carbon steel and its out for sharpening with Lynn. Perahps I should look into geting a stainless for my next one.

Here is my favorite SS razor that you can get new, takes a very, very, wicked sharp edge, and holds it...
It comes with the Black Micarta scales also....

Vintage Blades LLC :: Dovo Straight Razors :: Dovo Stainless Steel Straight Razors :: Dovo Ivory Micarta, 5/8" Stainless Steel Straight Razor

As for vintage, the Friodur's are hard to beat for smoothness....

PS: The term Stainless should be written as Stain Less they will still rust

I have had three SS razors. Two of them were Friodurs, the other the Dovo Renaissance.

The Dovo honed up quick as a lick, and was my new benchmark for sharpness in like 10 minutes time. Seriously. I have so far used it for two weeks of daily BBS shaving, and it still is wickedly sharp with only daily leather stropping.

My two Friodurs took quite a while of trial and error to get them to my standard of sharpness. I don't know what it is about them, but they seem to be finicky to hone. Perhaps diffferent source for the stainless, different heat treatment, they waved a rubber chicken over the Dovo before honing? Who knows? I can tell you that there was a dramatic difference in honing as well as shaving smoothness between the two brands of stainless (the Friodurs rae also a thinner grind, which I think made the difference in shave smoothness for me)

So, if all you tried were Friodurs, you may well think "these stainless razors sure are difficult to hone...", but if you tried the Dovo you would wonder what all the fuss was about.

Dovo Ebony also looks pretty sweet! If you're liking the 5/8ths
