Alas! Thumbnail, thou hast fadethest. Thy compactedness, which doth reduceth yet still encompasseth thou secreted treasure, dost lie withered and forsaken, ne'er to grace these hallowed halls henceforth. Forsooth, thou vaunted companion of jpeg and bitmap alike, we lamenteth thy passage from our ethery realm.

    James.

Thanks for the information. However, there is one inaccurate piece.

Not all graef and schmidt henckels razors have all of the marketing on the front of the tang. I have a #41 with henkels on the front, and greaf & schmidt on the back. Both are very clear and deep, so it's unlikely that either is a fake.

They use the info they have on hand at the printing so all should be taken with a grain of salt!

Absolutely. Just adding what I know. I know a lot less about razor history than many of you, so I like to share when I have a chance.

This is just a guess and should not be presumed to have been spoken with any authority but I always assumed that Greaf & Schmidt was a brand that Henckels bought and for a while at least had both forged on the shank. Like I said it is just a guess. I know a lot of consolidation took place as the market dwindled.

In a recent thread, somebody posted a link with some other henckels history when somebody was concerned that their graef & schimdt henckels was not a real henkels. From that link, it looks like g&f was the American distributor for henekls.

That makes sounds like a winning answer.
