Thanked: 36That looks very small, or is it just me, can i ask for the specs ???
Looks stunning, and i dont think its 'holy mammoth' because the condition of the ivory is to good, if it was mammoth it would be fossilized ivory. (i think i just took it to far)
Cheers

Thanked: 6I think it's probably just the angle of the pictures that makes the razor look small, although I haven't seen it in person yet so I don't know for sure.
It's 7/8 1/4 hollow and you are correct about the scales, they are pre ban elephant ivory. I was going to get cocobolo scales but Robert called to let me know he had some really nice looking ivory in so I went for it.
I can't wait to get it. The anticipation is killing me. I probably look at the pictures at least 10 times a day.

That pattern welded Damascus steel is just a thing of sheer beauty - and this one in particular! You've got yourself a heck of a razor there...and if it shaves an 1/8th as good as it looks, you'll be BBS from here on out!
Congrats!

Thanked: 6Well, the razor arrived yesterday and it is even better in person. Thanks Robert! The finish of the razor is no where near as dark as in the pictures. Robert put a really nice polish on it. It's hard to describe but I would say it's a mirror finish with the etching still easily visible but lighter than it shows in the pics. It's really something to see.
The scales are also much nicer in person. They have a nice grain to them that you can't really make out too well in the pics. They are also really nice thick pieces of ivory. Just beautiful.
The blade itself is pretty heavy. I would say it's probably the heaviest 7/8 I have but it balances nicely with the scales and I find I really like the weight.
The file work is really nicely done along the spine and I love the thick jimps on the top and bottom of the tang which provide a really nice and secure grip. I also really like the shape of the tang which is very comfortable to hold.
Of course I couldn't wait to use it so I had to take it for a spin last night. Robert told me it was really sharp, and I gotta say he put a wicked edge on this. Just fantastic. It was an absolute joy to shave with. The shave was extremely smooth and comfortable. One of the closest I have had yet. I did get a little careless at one point and nicked my lip while admiring the blade instead of paying close attention to what I was doing. That was when I realized exactly how sharp it is. I didn't feel a thing not even the pressure I usually feel when I nick myself. At first I didn't even think I cut myself at all but it turned out to be quite a bleeder and I had to use the styptic which I haven't had to do in a long while.
Needless to say, I am extremely happy with this razor and I would highly recommend Robert's work to anyone. He has to be one of the best values out there for customs right now along with JC. IMO the cost was significantly less than what I would have expected to pay and have paid for a damascus custom. Not to mention the ivory scales which are rather significant pieces of ivory.
Thanks again Robert! You way exceeded my expectations.
