Just a "Newbie" with a question. I have two old razors. One razor that belonged to one of my grandfathers is inscribed "Young America". Can anyone tell me something about it? It is in a box marked Union Razor company and "This razor is hand forged and hand ground". I don't know if it the correct box or not. If it is correct box, how long in business, etc and anything about the razor? It has a black (bone I think) handle.

The other razor was my other grandfather's. It is from Germany, with bone or perhaps Ivory carved handle. The blade is inscribed "Extra Hollow Ground, with a "24" near the blade and "B.J.PYRE CO Germany" in a circle. The handle looks like it may have been hand carved with a horse head, Horse Shoe and Riding Crop". Its box is marked G.R.Springer Barber Supplies & Fine Cutlery and Made in Germany so I'm sure this is the correct box
Anything you could tell me about these two I would greatly appreciate.

Could you post some pics? also on the first razor are there markings on the tang of the razor. I will see if I can uncover info on them in the mean time.

The one razor is a B.J. Eyre, not Pyre.

The horse scales are very cool. They're celluloid. I don't believe such raised relief celluloid razors were carved but instead were molded that way (mass produced rather than individually artisan created). Same goes for the raised relief pressed horn razors.

The most common I've seen in raised relief celluloid would be the peac-o-c-k, dutch scene with windmill, stag amongst pine boughs, etc.
