Thread: Solingen Razor - Flowers (Roses?) on Scales

NewB Question:

Does anyone recognize the razor pictured below? None of the box, blade or scales identify the manufacturer. For some reason, I thought that it was a Henckels blade, but I don't think I have ever seen one of their razors without their emblem stamped on the shank. The flower inlay on the scales looks like steel, with red and green lacquer or paint applied (not very accurately!).

Great looking blade! I say hone 'er up and see how she shaves. Sometimes those no-name blades are pleasantly surprising.

Maybe it's just the lighting of the photo, but it looks like it has got really heavy hone wear towards the heel, and very little near the tip. Interesting. I'm curious as to how well that will hone up for regular use

It IS the light. I copied the first picture and pasted it to a WORD Document. Then I lightened it a bit. It looks practically brand new!

Thanks for your thoughts! I think it is the poor picture quality - the hone wear along the heel is fairly even. I am beginning to think the blade might be stainless and not carbon steel, as I am having a devil of a time honing it. Well, I'll persevere, and report back.

I hadn't thought of that at all. I am using the full set of Norton waterstones (220, 1000, 4000 and 8000). For the 1000, 4000 and 8000, I have the little sharpening stone that raises the "slurry". Is there anything else I can do to keep the stones keen? Or, do you recommend different stones? Thanks!
