Thanked: 586My New DOVO
From Classic Shaving.
DOVO, Solingen - Meisterwerke In Stahl
DOVO Extra Hollow Ground "Singing" Razor, 5/8
South American Violet Wood
Imported from Solingen, Germany - World's Fine Cutlery CapitolThis Genuine South American Violet Wood handled Straight Razor celebrates the Beauty found in Nature that could never be equaled by man. It's Natural Exotic Wood handle is a true one-of-a-kind. Completely Sealed against moisture, the scales are separated by a Gold Plated Spacer and assembled using Flush Mounted Polished Nickel Fasteners.
The blade begins as a Forged High Carbon Steel razor blank. Next a Master Craftsman shapes and carefully grinds it into a 5/8 Extra Hollow Ground "Singing" blade. What makes this razor special, and different from all other DOVO razors, is the extreme amount of hollowing achieved during the grinding process. This results in an extremely thin blade that actually emits a musical note when the razor's edge is plucked. This thinness and resulting blade flexibility allows an unusually close shave by permitting the razors edge to flex and conform to slight facial contours and irregularities.
It's finishing is completed by Brand Stamping of the shank front and rear, and adding the 2-Color, 24k Gold, DOVO "Prima Klang" (First Note) hallmark to the front of the Blade. Finally it gets it's mirror-like polishing and sharpening.
Every bit of the many generations of experience that went into this razor's making is immediately evident when you hold it in your hand. And rest assurred - It will provide the finest shave possible for many generations to come.
Although the blurb says the razor is "pre-sharpened", I took her to my top six Shapton Glasstones (2000 - 30k). She is now sharp as sharp can be. I want to shave with her but I just shaved with my old W&B.
I have found the fit and finish of any new production razors to be inferior as compared to the razor's one hundred year old counterparts. Essentially, it is no surprise that they just don't make 'em like they used to.
The warranty card included with the razor includes the following statement in bold type:
"The manufacturer is out of any warranty in case treatment or maintenance advices will not be applied." Words to live by.Last edited by icedog; 07-31-2008 at 10:53 PM.

Thanked: 2Beautiful razor. Nice looking case they send it in, too. I just received my Dovo Bismarck and got a paper case. Thanks for the pictures.
