Thanked: 36Help needed
I just scored two straights from a second hand store. They look very good (i dont think they have any hone wear) but i have no idea if they are any good. Could someone give me an idea what they are worth and any other interesting info about them.
Tang of black one reads 'CHRIS R JOHNSON & Co SHFFIELD ENGLAND'
Tang of white one reads 'A100A' on one side and 'G.E.BETTERTON&COLTD. LONDON W.C.1 MADE IN GERMANY'
I believe that both are 6/8s
I want to buy a Norten hone set and these are my way in. (I was setting up a trade with one of our members but it took me to long to figure out how to resize etc and someone came along with cash o well)
Thanks for the help guys

Thanked: 22I can't see anything wrong with them, they look in good condition. hone them up and the could be great shavers.
What are they worth? Well to you, they are worth what you paid. To someone else, they are worth what that person is willing to pay.

Thanked: 586They look very nice. The matching boxes in good condition is a plus. I really like that white one. Can I have it?

I'd say they should be good shavers. But then again, most vintage German and English razors are.
As for what they're worth...they are worth what people will pay. Easiest way to find out is to throw them up on the classifieds (at whatever price you want) or Ebay (with clear pics and a low start price) and see what happens.

Thanked: 335Buckler,
The one with the three pin handle is obviously worth substantially more than the one...
I gotta stop there as I was only going to attempt messing with your mind.
As the others have commented, they are worth what you paid and maybe a bit more or maybe a bunch more, but you'll never know that until you offer them for sale. Look at the new razors for sale at Classic Shaving, Straight Razor Design, and Vintage Blades and compare your new finds to those new razors for appearance and price. I think you'll find you did well.

As is: $20-30.
Cleaned and honed: $30-40
Glowing recommendations from other people or you after a couple months use: $40-50
