    Default Numbers on Friodurs

I have a Henckels Friodur with the number 89 1/2 on the shank. I'm looking at another one on the bay with the number 70 1/2 on it. Both razors have 9/16 wide blades and from the measurements given it seems a dead ringer to mine. There has got to be some difference. Why otherwise would the numbers be different? Anyone have information on Friodur numbers?

Numbers on razors in general are a mystery. On some brands they denote size in mm. In some they relate to width. In some the higher the number the better the quality. In some they don't seem to mean anything. So take your pick. Unless someone here has an old catalogue. Henckels is still in business so you might contact them and ask. You have nothing to lose.

Just to add to the confusion, I had a 70 1/2 that was 5/8ths.
