Is my Wapi a Wapi or is it a piece of Crapi
Hey all,
I bought a "Wapi" online for $26 including shipping and it arrived today. It has no markings on it whatsoever. Is this what it should look like or did I buy a fake?
Are there any pictures of what a Wapi should look like?
Thanks,
Doug

IIRC, they do not all have stampings on the tangs. I have read in some places that the SFK stamped ones are better, but others say there is no difference in quality.
Best way to find out, hone her up (I find they take a good edge rather easily) and give her a try.

Thanks for the info.
It's pretty sharp. It shaved a spot on my arm clean in 2 passes. Should I still give it a pyramid on my Norton 4K/8K and 40 or so on my Chinese 12K?

Well, arm testing varies from person to person since arm hair vaires, but for me a razor has to pop hair off and leave a clean shave in one pass on my arm for it to shave my face well.
But as I always say, shave testing on your face is the only real indicator of whether or not a blade is shave ready. So if you are unsure, give her a go on your face. If it's ready, awesome; if not, you should have some idea of how much more work is needed.

Thanked: 2209The first thing to do is to strop that razor for 30-50 round trip laps on a plain leather hanging strop then shave with it. This will tell you exactly how sharp it is and if it needs more honing and how much. It will also provide you with a base for future comparison.

Hey,
I finally had a chance to shave with the new Wapi. I didn't hone it. I just stropped about 40 or so passes and shaved.
I have to say I was very impressed how well it went across my skin. I had a good 3 days growth on me and even the first pass went very smooth. Very impressive for a blade I paid $26 for.
One criticism. Because the steel scales are thin, it can be a little tough to control when shaving tricky areas like the chin and right under the nose. Its not balanced as well as my TI, B-haus or J A Henckel.
Overall. A great Great GREAT value and good to have in my collection.

I have (and sell) LOTS of Wapis. The ones with the 'old' or 'new' style logo on the tang are generally the 5/8 darn-near-full-wedge. The ones with no markings on at all are usually 9/16 and a thinner grind (but only a bit!). Both take good edges and all come from the same place. If it shaves like a demon, it's a Wapi.
