Who wants to rescale my Le Grelot?
I have a new Le Grelot razor which shaves nicely.....I like the blade quite a bit, but I find the scales uninspiring and rather blah......
I'd like to have the blade rescaled with something more elegant like horn or paua.
Anyone here do this kind of work or have a referral for me?
Thanks!

Thanked: 335Stu,
What's a paua? I'm not a re-scaler, but have a couple of the Le Grelots, among which are some of the plastic hafted variety. While they are not the most beautiful of handles, they certainly are functional. Blah in the morning is something which works well with countering some of the other aspects of having to arise and shine. Jim Ayars at Straight Double Edge Razor : Shaving Products Supplies : Dovo Safety Razor : Badger Shaving Brush : Men's Grooming Products : VintageBladesllc.com has some horn scales which you may be interested in looking at.
Good shaving,

Bruce,
Paua is a particularly colorful type of abalone with gorgeous rainbow colors and effect.
I don't mind plain micarta, faux tortoise etc...scales, but ugly wood, which is what I currently have on my Le Grelot just seems a waste of a good blade.
I have a Dovo with gorgeous Mother of Pearl scales and I would like my Le Grelot to match the Dovo for beauty. I find aesthetically pleasing scales to add immeasurably to my enjoyment of shaving.
Thank you for the reply!

YOu might want to get ahold of Robert Williams. I know Joe Chandler is pretty busy.and i think he retired from rescales.

Gabor can make you nice scales, wood, horn or bone... one of its work on a Le Grelot can be seen there: Fine Razors
You can drop him a pm if you are interested or want more info - maybe he will drop in also -; SRP name is Buddel

Yes, Gabor does make some exceptionally nice scales! The Le Grelot to which you refer is a thing of beauty, as is the bone scaled blade he posted here at SRP.
From what I understand, working with MoP is rather hazardous. Inhaling its dust can cause all sorts of nastiness in your lungs.

Thanked: 735Hmm, well, that Paua sounds/looks pretty cool.
But....if it's going to cost you over $200 for just a sheet of it, why not just buy another Dovo MOP (~$250, right?), and use the scales off of that?
Take the Dovo blade and put it in the scales that are currently on the LeGrelot, and then you can sell that razor off to defray the cost? Or keep it as a travel/backup razor?
