Japanese Razor
I won an auction awhile ago on fleabay, a nice looking Japanese straight.
The link as a reminder:http://http://straightrazorpalace.co...-straight.html
BTW - At the advice of you folks, I quickly got rid of the old cord.
Sooner or later I will hone it and shave with it, but in the mean time...
What is the best way to store this razor? Can I purchase a box, or other alternative?
It didn't come with a box, the makeshift cardboard envelope it came in isn't going to last forever.
Additionally, can someone recommend a method for a new handle wrap?

gatorfan I think I remember the twine cord on your razor. I would recommend Manila or hemp. Hemp is smoother than Manila. Both will allow to to keep the triditional Japaneese look. There is a book that I have called the Handbook of Knots expanded edition by Des Pawson. it cost about $15 to 17 dollars.
It takes you from a shoe lace to over 100 knots . There are several fancy knots that I tink anyone could master. Instead of just wrapping the line around the knife handle you could do a work of art that will last a generation. The book is published by DK Publishing INC.
hope this helps

you want a Kiri wood, aka Paulownia box for kamisori, or just a box?

Your probably better off with a bare handle which is how many are anyway. if you rally want a wrap I would suggest some parachute cord. Bamboo would be my second choice. Just keep some oil on the blade.

Thanked: 0I'd be very interested in how you get on with this. I've been considering a Japanese blade for a while.

No promises, but write to Iida-san. I think he can get a box for you.
If you feel like making one you can get some wood here: Buy Paulownia Wood In Bulk or Test out the Craftsman or Enthusiast Packs.
