Thanked: 84Hi All. I want to keep the Fontana as I've put a lot of work into the edge and I've got it, what I consider , very keen.
If I sell it, I will offer it on BST here.
Thanks for the interest Gentlemen.

Four bucks for a fancy Fontana (love that jimped thumb rest) in excellent condition, WOW! My plain-jane, pitted one (Marked 6/8, but 13/16 like yours) cost me $15 and I think I got a good deal. It's my sharpest razor, hairs bifurcate at its approach.
I'm surprised that a large company like Dovo would bother with what must have been a tiny shop like Fontana. Out of 6000+ members here, only 3 or 4 of us have ever mentioned owning one so they couldn't have made very many.
Like I said, mine is my sharpest, how does yours compare to your others?

Thanked: 84Only my Kropp and Genco are as sharp. I have a William Webster that is a better hair cutter, but doesn't feel as sharp.
It does have a couple of little black marks on it.
An interesting point, the pins on the razor are IDENTICAL to the ones I bought off theinvisibleedge (bluepriciple) he gets them from Dovo.
Yet, the razor has not been re-pinned.
Maybe Dovo bought them for their pins.?!

It appears that Dovo began buying out a number of other producers beginning in the 1950's. There must have been a great consolidation going on in the industry at that time. Here's a list of their acquisitions from their web site:
1952 - brand name "Tennis" (open razors)
1957 - brand name "Bismarck" (open razors)
1957 - brand name "Ankerflagge" (open razors) from the Carl Rader company
1968 - Erich Hartkopf company. The scissors were jointed by pocket knives of the brand name "Teufelskerle"
1969 - brand name "Kronpunkt" (open razors) from the Heups company
1970 - brand name "Fontana" (open razors)
1973 - Heups & Hermes company (pedicure nippers and instruments)
1996 - Merkur company (shaving equipment)
