    I agree with nickyspaghetti. in the forests of my beard, size has very little to do with cutting efficiency except that most of my wedges are larger razors. In my personal shaving experience, grind is more important than weight

    At one time I would have said that using bigger than 5/8 was all to do with macho, but these days I find I only really use two of my stable regularly - an 8/8 hollow ground Kropp and, more recently, a very-near 8/8 swept full wedge Frederick Fenny. I don't find either cumbersome though they aren't, IMO, suitable for tyros. I just find they give a better shave, that's all.
