Looking for info and expertise...
Can anyone tell me about this razor? It's a Henckels Friodur 6/8. I've seen plenty about these razors in 7/8 and 8/8 sizes, but the 6/8's seem to be a topic of far less discussion. Anyone have any experience or thoughts they could share? I'm hoping to be able to find one of these to buy, but being new to straight shaving, thought I'd check with the pros before going forward. What are the scales made of? Is this an older Henckels blade, or a new one? How much should it be worth?

Well, old and new is relative. I think this one should be considered old, as opposed to the ones that shavingshop has, but Henckels made these over many decades.
Talking to people who have tried both it seems that they are all good.
The scales are made of celluloid.
As far as what it's worth - that's always rather ambiguous, esp. for razors not in production. I thought last time Henckels was selling these they were in the $150 price range, but I may be wrong. About a year ago I passed on several in rather nice condition which were selling for $60. Nowadays on a good day on ebay they can push $200, but I thought they were recently going for $100.
I think some people really like the original celluloid scales.

Fridours are all very nice razors, I have an 8/8ths INOX fridour and I think it is a great razor. I have never shaved with a 6/8ths fridour but I am sure you will find it to be a fine razor.
