    Question No-Name Razor

What about this un-named razor? It is a good shaver and does not have a brand name. All it has on the tang is ENGLAND. Who and why was this razor thus marked. ENGLAND is finely stamped and is shallow. I was pleasantly surprised to feel how well it shaved. I was afraid it was a Paki or Chinese. Has anyone had one of these generic razors? Curious thing.

    Default

Based on the tang, it looks quite old. Any chance it's a regrind? Maybe it was even restamped? Or maybe it's from a small, local maker.

    Default Regrinds-Restamps

I have seen" regrind" used for many types of razors. I was understanding they were done by owner/craftsmen. Could it be that a factory batch of rejects or seconds find good market by being reground? Back in the day of straight razor use, were there "custom shops" doing trade this way? I also own a F. Reynolds Silver Steel regrind. It started out as a wedge and was ground to slight hollow. The machinist seemed to be in a hurry because the grind marks were very evident. I sanded them out mostly. It made a sweet smiling shaver. Interesting things were done in the past to these razors. Perhaps tariffs, taxes, trade embargoes, all made for creative modifications including re-stamping, re-grinding, etc. I suppose.
