Default How many Wooly Mammoths were there?

It amazes me that there seems to be a plethora of custom cutlery and shaving items that have Mammoth Ivory components.

Does anyone know where all of this is coming from? Is there a lab somewhere cloning Mammoths and I didn't read about it?

    Just curious.

And another question if I may add to yours Chris: how much usable ivory can one expect to get from one set of mammoth tusks?

Thanks for asking this. I've wondered about it for some time.

This is the answer! Now, we know why the Mammoth is an extinct species... those bloody first humans shavers who loved ivory scales!
One name we know: Manny - all his family was killed by ice age people!

BTW1 sorry for the smilies... completely out of topic, but I am really found of Star Wars
BTW2 sorry for the stupid and meaningless comment... but I just had a hard working day, one big deception, and my brain just froze

In Russia in Siberia in ices, people found and find many mammoths. And many of them kept people at home. There there were many camps with prisoners (and now suffices), earlier they there cut wood in a taiga, prisoners found mammoths in ices... and ate them.
And when was the tsar, to St.-Petersburg from Siberia, people brought ornaments from bones of mammoths.
