Centering scales
Well...
I have a beautiful livi in ivory. The darn thing just doesnt close centered. It closes nicely if i take the time to close it, but if not..it catches on the scales. I have tried to tighten..loosen..and flip the plastic washers but i just cant get the blade to center evenly in the scales when closing it. Im no restorer at all...so any type of suggestion on correcting the problem would be appreciated. I can provide pictures if needed.

Thanked: 131Pictures would be helpful Isaac. Also, when you close it does it have any form of sideways movement? I mean is there an arc to the way it closes? Does it close directly towards the scales?

has it always closed this way? Sometimes the wedge angle has to be changed, sometimes the scales warp, sometimes the pin is loose...etc.

im charging the camera batteries now...
Its not a warp in the blade..it just tends to close at an angle. I think it closed correctly when i first got it..and like after one shave it changed a bit. i did manage to recenter it once..just by flipping the washers..but it reverted back to catching the scales.

Thanked: 335Isaac,
Either the scales warped after fitting or the hole in the shank and/or the holes in the scales aren't drilled perpendicular to the long axis of blade and scales. When you open the razor so it on a line with the scales and you sight along the length of the open razor, it that line straight or does the blade angle one way or the other?
This should never happen with an expensive custom, but it can be fixed.
Good luck, (do you speak Italian?)

Yes ivory and horn do warp. If its a reasonable timeframe since you bought it I would contact the vendor and see if they will help you. if you bought it from Lynn I'm sure he would take care of it.

+1 on DitchDoc. I would work on the wedge angle with adjustable pins intil you get it right. THe angel of the wedge may be different fron the top to the bottom causing the scales to warp or twist which would cause you blade to move off center.
