Default How about this as first razor?

    Hello everyone!

I just saw this razor in the classifieds. I don't want to do something stupid and spend money later to find out that I should have done something different. Here is the classified razor I was looking at:

6/8 wade butcher special - Straight Razor Place Classifieds

Also, I was considering ordering a razor a new wapi or double arrow or the cheapest dovo I can find.

Would you take the classified or a new cheap razor?

personally i don't think it makes as much of a difference as it seems. most starter razors seeem to be round points as they say you are less likely to jab yourself but that isn't to say most people start out wiht them. that one seems pretty nice to me, its shave ready and from what i have read W & B is a pretty good brand. i bought a cheap Dovo for my first razor and don't regret it at all, but having bought and shaved with some used razors now i wouldn't hesitate to buy one used, especially from the classifieds on these forums, as they have a great reputation. i have read lots of good things about the Wapi and the Double Arrow as not only starters , but good inexpensive razors, i almost bought the starter kit from Rup Razors as the starter kits are a pretty good deal, but haven't yet so i don't have first hand experience.

I have a few Wade and Butchers and they are (so far) all good shavers. Personally, I prefer the classifieds instead of new, but I hear good things about the Wapi or Double Arrows other forum members sell here.

Price is right, that's for sure. Looks like it had some beautiful restoration work.My only caveat would be the lack of a round point. Its not that you can't learn to shave without one-but it(the lack of a roundpoint) can be a source of the occasional bloodletting-until your skills are up to the task.

It's clean, cheap and a quality brand. I have a W&B and like it except the fact its a round point, but thats just a matter of taste. Its an excellent shaver.
