    Default Your Help Please

The bottom pic shows the uneven bevel.

I have a Dovo Astral straight that has what appears to be a slight issue with an uneven bevel. On one side (non-engraved side) the bevel appears to be larger in the centre. That is as the drawing shows the bevel in teh centre of the blade goes further from the edge that it does at the heel and the toe of the blade.

This is probably due to my previous inexperience with honing when I was pressing too hard while honing. Is there anyway to correct this. I cannot seem to get the blade to become razor sharp.

I hope the drawing I did comes up. I put it on Shutterfly. If it doesnt show up does anyone know how I can get pictures and drawings up on this website?

    Thanks for your help.

For now, I'd just try a couple of regular pyramids and see if that does the trick. If it doesn't show any improvement, you might be forced to hone it down and reset. However, I'd leave that as a last resort.

Does the opposite side have the same problem in reverse, could be a warped blade.

Perhaps you should try to hone it again on just that side - using just enough pressure to keep the edge on the stone - for a few passes, then look at the bevel again with a strong loupe. If it appears to start evening out, then you were pressing too hard on one side originally. If it shows no difference, the blade is most probably slightly warped.

Sorry the drawing was meant to indicate that the opposite side doesnt have the same issue. In fact the bevel on that side appears to be even all the way across.

I was thinking maybe that it is warped. I have tried honing it many time with onyl the weight of the blade but to no avail.

Can you explain what resetting is?

Thanks guys for all your help!
