Thanked: 2sad little story.. or what should I consider vs. Livi Regrind?
True Story:
Bloke gets Straight Razor Bee in his Bonnet.
After a few weeks of wondering what to buy where, stumbles into vintage TI at Swiss Antique shop.
Pays over the odds for it, but is very happy with it. Starts messing around with hones and stuff, has two moderately successful shaves.
Leaves it open to dry in a cupboard, out of harmīs way.
Wife does a spot of cleaning. Purposefully whisks the assorted junk out of the fateful cupboard.
Steel hits floor.Game over.
Bloke is gutted. The consolation is that wife promises him a replacement for Xmas. Budget runs to about $300.
Iīm tall and have large hands. A Livi Regrind looks just the thing for me. But should I be worrying about any alternatives? (e.g. LeGrelot? other?). Or should I just shut up and get on with it?
Any advice much appreciated!

Looks rusty. I probably was already weak. I could have broke at any time. At least there was no blood involved.

What a tragedy! Save those scales. The good news you can have both. There's a Livi for $200 in the B/S/T section from an English member. You can get 6/8 LeGrelot from E Jaggerr for less than $100 also in England.Boutez en avant!

Sorry about your razor. As was pointed out, it does look like it may have had a hairline crack that rusted internally, although it probably wouldn't have survived the fall in any case.
I think a Livi regrind would be a perfect replacement. I have one in snakewood and love it.

The first thing I thought when I saw that razor was HOLY SH*T.
The second thing I thought was... oof, that was rusty and bound to happen at any minute.

@ joke1176, that is the kind of corrosion your torrey had except it was on the edge preventing it from becoming smooth.

Thanked: 22I'm surprised you got any decent shaves with that at all though, the edge looks as rough as guts.
I have to say that, that is the coolest thing I have ever seen. Don't get me wrong that does suck, but I have never seen a straight that has broken cleanly right through the spine like that. Normally just the blade shatters and the spine is saved.
Although you have the budget, you may consider a cheaper razor, like the one closeshave mentioned, then use the rest of the budget, to buy yourself some more shaving accessories, like a nice badger brush, or some more soaps and creams, or a nice strop. Actually 2 razors would be best, we always recommend you have a minimum of 2, so if something happens to one, you still have the other whilst the first is fixed if possible.

Are you a gambling man? Wrap it up and send it back to TI. They may just send you a brand spanky new replacement. All you have to lose is a bit of time and postage.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 77That spine was already cracked. I wonder if someone had been rapping it on the sink while shaving?
