Of the three factors you listed before "etc," one could argue that all of those depend on factors other than the width of the blade. Size, much like grind, is all about personal preference and your own technique.

I have shaved with blades from 5/8 up to 8/8, from full hollows to wedges, and it's all about how you use it. I have to say, if I had to pick only one blade to use every day, it would probably be a 6/8 half hollow; a middle of the road razor in all regards. I love my big ones, but sometimes I want something a bit more maneuverable. And I have some smaller ones that I love, but sometimes I want something with a bit more heft and something that makes it easier to watch my blade angle.

A skilled shaver will be able to shave with any shavable razor. A connoisseur will point out the pluses and minuses of each shavable razor while enjoying every shave.

I found this in the Dovo website:

3/8" flat or 1/2 hollow ground for salon and clinic use, eyebrows
4/8" flat or 1/2 hollow ground for salon and clinic use, light beard growth
5/8" 1/2 or 1/1 hollow ground for general removal of beard growth
6/8" square or sharp point for the experienced shaver
7/8" 1/1 hollow ground with for very strong beard growth double- stabilising piece

They also describe the cross-section of the razors, if you are interested.

Do you think this is accurate? I mean, in general. People can do with their razor whatever they want as long as it is legal, right? ;-) What in the world is a "double- stabilising piece"?

I prefer 6/8 to 7/8 because i find they shave better and carry the lather longer which is better most barbers use 6/8 back in the day.I also find biger razor better to hold and grip.

It's the ground layers of steel where the heel meets the shank.

I've got all sizes and will use any depending my mood and beard growth. I mostly rotate between 5/8 - 6/8 and 7/8.
