Default Robeson ShurEdge, stamped numbers on tang/tail

Almost every ShurEdge I have seen have numbers stamped on the tang or tail. What do they mean? These numbers must have been placed there for a good reason. I don't think they are serial numbers but maybe model numbers, date codes or distributor’s code?

Possibly we could create a table (database) of these numbers with description and photos or manufactured date of the razors for future reference? Who knows maybe we may see a correlation between the numbers and the type of razor…

This information could be found in old catalogs or other vintage publications.

Do the same for other vintage razor brands and add to the Wiki?

I would imagine the numbers to be production number of that particular model, and model names the approximate period of distribution. ..

I know that numbers on Robeson knives indicated scale material, blade types and the like. I haven't found any info on razors as such... yet.

Ack! I wish I would have bookmarked a Robeson collector's site that I stumbled upon a year or so ago. I was just Googling Robeson IIRC. It had some clear photos of actual Robeson straight razor models and their descriptions and what type of face they were supposed to shave best. I think they referenced the models by number. I have no idea where to find it at this point. But is was a website created by a private Robeson collector of all things Robeson.

Cool! I have a 16-F-300 (wiry beard, tender skin), and a 35-B-250 (Heavy beard, skin exposed to weather).

I just sold my friend a Robeson from my stable, I wonder what model his is.

I have a Robeson shuredge I picked up five years ago at an antique mall. On the tang it's stamped 1595. I have wondered as well what those number indicate.
