MWAHAHAHA!! Big Christmas Surprise
Today i go to get my haircut, talking to the lady she is telling me that her husbands father who died about 2001 was a barber and that her husband had thrown out a bunch of his razors thinking nobody would want them (yes, I was very upset). I told her how tragic it was. she said that there was one more box of old stuff though that they hadn't gotten to throwing out yet. went out to the garage, brought it back and said take whatever I wanted.
well, 4 hones and 5 razors later I was tickled three shades of pink and high as a fashion model. I actually took 6 with me, one was a tragically dead otto deutch that had gotten wet or something. rusted to poo. I only took it because 1. the box was still great and 2. I read something here about having a tang for rescaling something to do with trial fitting etc. so I figured couldn't hurt.
I'll post that one first, then the others. would like some information on what I got since I'm still new to this. Oh, and finally today I'm not upset with the rest of you and your "look at this awesome dorko I got at the antique store for a pack of bubblegum and plug nickle"
after cleanup on the wire wheel and then straightening the edge on the belt grinder, truly a tragedy

next two
the otto was obviously shot, and this w&b seems pretty used, but I think its pre-1900 (anybody able to help me with age?) other than this one though, the other 4 our in pretty great shape blade wise. is this w&b salvageable? it looks to my newbie eyes to have lots of hone wear and the edge isn't quite right.
This on just says Halma, box says 5/8. Made in Germany

Thanked: 3795I've not seen much of it, but I wonder if the first razor is a victim of celluloid rot? I would throw the scales away asap.

I think you will really enjoy the C-Mon. Mine is an awesome shaver, probably used more than any of my other razors. Nice haul!

any more info people? is that w&b worth saving? can the edge be straighted and the blade made usable with that much hone wear?
any information on the other ones?
Thanks.

I would try to save the W&B; even if unsuccessful, it would be a great practice razor. The Blue Wonder and the Halma have good reports as shavers. I would likely have them rescaled.
