Thanked: 11Question about Zeepk/Dovo Quality
Hi,
I was wondering what made the quality of these blades so bad. On the same token what makes the quality of DOVO or other brands good? I'm totally new to straight razor shaving and I would just like to know what makes the difference. Thanks

It's all about the steel they use. Some steels are just unsuitable for knives and razors as they are too soft.
I have no experience of zeepk but I have seen plenty of knives made from cheap steel and it is impossible to get them sharp enough for use in the kitchen let alone to shave with.
A good quality steel is able to be hardened sufficiently to create an edge that doesn't degrade too fast, nor one that is too hard to sharpen properly.

The 2 major factors are
1) quality of steel. This includes things like caron content, trace elements and purity
2) heat treatment. This determines things like hardness, toughness, and crystalline structure
zeepk are made of crappy steel. I don't know about their heat treatment, but it is probably equally crappy.
dovo and ti use high quality steel, and have excellent heat treatment processes.
This is why zeepk are cheap and dovo and ti are not. good steel is expensive, and they have to ensure a regular supply which probably costs money as well, since both dovo and ti procure batches that are not of significant (industrial) size.
And then there is the equipment needed to be able to run consistent high quality heat treatment processes.
On top of that, grinding and honing 60 HRC razors is much more difficult and time consuming than grinding a 45 HRC blade. And you need more expensive equipment to do so.
Alll these things (and I am sure I forgot some still) make quality razors more expensive than crappy razors.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

dovo makes good razors but stay away from zeepk i have heard bad things about them most of the time you get what you pay for. when you see 3 zeepk razors for $15 that should say something about thier quality

Zeepk are made from recycled steel of Soviet warships. Those ships were made from recycled steel. The Pakistanis bought a fleet of these ships.

ZEEPK
My wife just bought me a set of ZEEPK with 2 straight razors. THEY SUCK!!!!
You can buy a nice razor at an antique shop for the same price. I just wanted
to put my 2 cents worth in. The razors wont sharpen i have put some serious time
in trying to sharpen them and still no dice.
