I made the case out of an old diagnostic set (otoscope/ophthalmoscope) myself, so it cost nothing. The razors were bought some years ago when Knifecenter carried the Eagles with worked backs (they don't now). They must have cost about $60 each then.

The Livi cost about 11 of the Eagles!

I bought one of those "Eagles" back then. Cost me about $90 for a 5/8's with the "work back." Wish I'd bought a couple more, and in 6/8's, since they are now going for $229.00 each!

    One of my favorite razors.

The Swedish steel in the Dovo Bergisher Lowe i understand is an alloy steel. The steel used in TI razors is white steel, more difficult to make, but capable of a sharper edge when made perfectly.

I think you need to qualify if the razors are modern production, custom or vintage. For modern production, I am surprised Ralf Aust wasn't mentioned. The are very well made. Hold a great edge and shave very smoothly. When you get to modern custom, I have 5 Mastro Livi's that have different steel and they are amazing. Then there is the production vintage, my preference is Sheffield or US razors and they give an amazing shave. For the money, edge maintenance, and quality of shave, the vintage still offer the best bargain. Love my Bengall, Kropp and Genco's.

Asking what razor is the best is like asking what beer is best or which Charley's Angel is the best.
    They are all the best.

My father was an engineer. He used to tell me that sharpening a straight razor is like trying to build a ladder to the moon out of a roll of aluminum foil.

I'll qualify that somewhat...nearly all razors are great. I simply avoid those razors (ahem, Gold$) that members here suggest you steer clear of and have been pleased with all of my purchases.

Vintage, modern, custom...almost all of them do a wonderful job. Sure is nice to have so many choices of brands, styles, grinds, and sizes. Problem is that is the perfect recipe for RAD (still need a Koraat, Japanese western, etc.).
