Default Shaving Direction and Type of Blade

I've experienced when shaving against the grain, the razor has a tendency to be stopped by the whiskers. If I used the Feather razor blade, which is supposedly the sharpest razor blade there is, will the blade glide smoothly against the grain eliminating that problem?

I only shave against the grain because when I shave the other ways it doesn't take off much.

With a single edge blade, whether it be a DE blade or a straight, you need to shave with the grain first and then attempt an across the grain pass or an against the grain pass. No one I know can have a comfortable shave starting with only against the grain with a Feather or Straight.
