Thanked: 0A Celabration Razor - What Do YOU think?
Just got myself a nice new job after a long layoff; so by way of celaration I'm going to invest in a really nice straight. I've got my eye on either a Wade n Butcher or a Double Duck. I thought it might add to the specialness of the purchase and the joy of every time I pick it up if I took a 'straw poll' from SRP. I'll tot up all the 'best razor to by' votes and that will be the razor I will (attempt) to buy. Good idea or what! So, what would be your razor of choice?
Richard

Congratulations on your new job!!
It means you have less time for shaving so the time you do have to shave must be realy good.. a new straight ought to have that effect so it seems a wise decision.
W&B or Double Duck.... Hmmm.. that depends on your taste I suppose.. so I cant be of any help there.. (I would buy a Henckels Friodur)

Thanked: 953Congratulations. There is nothing like a break that gives you hope after going through a bad patch. To make it special and commemorative I'd get a W&B meatchopper on ebay from a good vendor like philotrix and have one of our restoration experts do a special handle for it. Cannonfodder did a beautiful olive handle for my W&B 7/8s. With a handle you pick it will stand out more as a commemorative, and all in buying the raozr and the resto it might cost less than a DD. I don't have a DD and want one, so I'm not trying to compare quality of shave because I can't, but my two W&B wedges shave incredibly - both close and smooth (once you learn to hone them).
heres's my W&B with cannonfodder scales and polish. It wasn't even close toa mirror polish before he sanded and polished it.

Damn good razor choices. If the wade is a smiler I'd pick it first. I like smiles. On the other hand ducks are beautifull, as well as pleasing to look at.

Ducks or W&B...
The difficult choice, both razors are good. But for me - W&B...wedge blade.Alex Ts.

Both are very nice selections, but also potentially very different shavers. Are you looking at eBay razors? Adding a link to them would probably help with the vote. I have both and I love them. It all depends what kind of a shave you're in the mood for.

If you're starting out I would vote for the Duck. Big W&Bs are great but they are harder to hone and for a new straight razor shaver I think the full hollow and easily honed Duck would be more user friendly. If you are a seasoned veteran then whichever turns you on more. If your anything like a lot of us you will have a large assortment before too long anyway.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Wanna buy this W&B? lol Won't be cheap and I'm actually currently redoing the wedge so it looks better. It'll most likely end up on my email list.

Thanked: 0You know what? That is such a good idea, should be getting a W&B soon that needs work. So I'm going to run with your idea (I'm also going to buy a DD!).
Many thanks
