Default In Need of The Brain Trust

I need some help from the brotherhood. I picked up a razor that was supposed to be a Hess but unfortunately and I don't think it was on purpose. I received a razor in a Hess box that is marked Bismarck Razor Works Solingen Germany on one side of the tang and 406 on the other side? Also on the monkey tail in real small letters it says Registered.

Okay what the heck did I just buy? Luckily it was very cheap and is actually in good shape so I'm not really whininng just not sure how to react?

    TIA

I presume you bought it from an auction site. So my 1st question would be: did you get the same razor that was on the picture? If so, we have a WYSIWYG situation and you cannot complain. It more often happens that razors do not come in their original box and some sellers just presume the two belong together and do not check.

Kees, I agree 100% I don't think it was purposeful at all. It is the same razor in the pic's for sure. The pic's were low quality and I figured for the price it was worth taking a risk. Now that I went back after having the razor in hand and looked closer I see the Bismarck on the tang in the pic's.

Bismark Razor Works was in business from 1900 to 1930! I am assuming that Dovo bought the trademark hence their Bismark razor!
I am betting you got a top notch razor there!

I seem to recall reading that the old pre Dovo Bismarks were marked 'registered'. Not sure where I read it or heard it but I think that is the way it is. If it shaves good it is a good deal.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
