    Default A rust question

So when I got my Dovo Bismarck fresh out of the box and inspected it, I noticed that it has what appear to be rust spots on the tang and the monkey tail. I'll be getting pictures up as soon as I can. After cruising SRP and B&B, I came upon some remedies for what to do in a situation like this, mostly from here:

Corrosion on my DOVO Bismarck - Badger & Blade

So I tried a pencil eraser, no luck. I tried fine grit steel wool, no luck. I'm just not sure what to do, and its really frustrating me. Should I send the razor back to classicshaving (I got it about 2 days ago)? I'd really rather not send it back if I can help it, cause I'm not even sure they'd take it cause its been opened.

If anyone has an idea, let me know.

If it's rust, and came new (out of the box) that way, call them and ask about their return policy.

Since you have already tried steel wool you might try it again with a little oil. I have used Break Free and 000 wool to get light surface rust off of a gun barrel without removing the blue. A gunsmith recommended it and it worked.

Nice! That's what I'll have to try next. How about Maas or Flitz? Anyone have any experiences with those?

I use maas often to get rust off of the blades. It should work well in this case. It's not too expensive either. I found it at Walmart in the hardware area near the knives

Nice. JimmyHAD, I'm not sure where I can find Break-Free in a B&M location. If you can enlighten me as to the answer to that, I'd be much obliged. As for CarrieM, I'm gonna grab some Maas while I'm out today, and give it a go!

I have found it in bicycle shops and gun shops. If you google it you will no doubt find it on the web. BTW, it is a good lubricant as well for bikes and such.

Well here's an update. I've used Maas polish, and it took off some of the gold wash, without effecting the marks on the monkey tail. I not believe that they're not actually rust, but marks of some other kind. I'm not sure what. They're not pits, because the surface of the metal is smooth when i run my fingernail across it. I think maybe scuffs from a vice clamp or something of that nature. They don't appear anywhere on the blade or spine. Pics soon.

You should have returned it for another one. If there are any blemishes on a new razor that's a manufacturers defect. If it was rust it wasn't stored or protected. Either way you should have sent it back.

Of course now that you messed with it your stuck. If its a blemish from a vise or something I don't know you can fix it unless you have a dremmel and polish it out or use some sandpaper to get it out. otherwise can you live with it?

Yeah I cant certainly live with it. I wouldn't have messed with it had I not been able to live with the blemish, so no harm done.
