Default Should I get a different razor?

Recently I picked up an inexpensive Fromm straight razor at Sally's Beaty Supply. I loved it an for Christmas wanted to get a nicer razor off ebay. I bought a Zeepk kit that came with a razor, brush, soap, and stropp. I noticed that was on the razor to avoid list and was wonder if that is why I'm having a hard time getting it sharp with the stropp.
Will this kit be alright to use for the time being?

    Smile Welcome, chemist330

The Fromm should hone up well with stones. The Zeepk kit is garbage all 'round. Sorry you got burned on that one.

sorry to have to say this but that razor would only be good as a letter opener and even then would be over priced. its a real piece of junk.

it's not neccesarily junk. you can heat treat the Zeepk yourself and get the steel hard and be able to take a good edge just like any razor.

Sorry to disagree but its been tried here and even heat treating IF you had the knowledge and equipment to do it properly have had no positive results that I have ever heard of. Better to find a good used razor in the classifieds and start from there.

in that case, then the zeepk really is junk. why do they even sell them at all? and so many of them everywhere, even on eBoy.

For people who don't know any better. Just like everything else in the world that is poor quality, but high quantity. Think disposable razors

Is the strop worth holding on to? The brush and stand are nice so at least I have those. I guess I'll head over to the classifieds.

I was looking around on here and a couple other sites for the basics. So now I need a razor and a hone and maybe a strop. I don't want to go overboard yet so will I be able to get just a 4k/8k wet stone combo? Is there a website you recommend that I could get just these three items?

Try getting a pre-honed Dubl Duck. Can't go wrong with that.
