Using polish as protection?
In reading up on the care of razors, I see that corrosion is a big concern. I was wondering if keeping a razor polished would help to protect it? You know kind of like waxing your car?

I generally use Maas paste for polishing razors that I get in a condition that necessitates polish, and that seems to work fine as a protectant... but I am a little wary of shaving regularly with Maas-covered razors (even if you do a good hot water rinse beforehand). Like many folks who keep their razors in a humid environment like a bathroom (however temporarily), I use camilia oil, which you can spray on before putting it away.

I got mine at Japaneseknifesharpening.com, which is associated with D.R. Sharpening, when I was ordering some knife stuff. I think you can get it at most woodworking-oriented stores ( like Rockler) as well. Come to think if it, I think I saw a small bottle (as "Tea seed oil") in a local health food co-op, but it was rather overpriced.
I like this stuff (also called "tsuba oil," I think) because it's edible -- or so I was told -- and therefore seems more safe on the blades than other stuff (like renaissance wax, which I use on scales).

Thanked: 13246I use Ren wax and MAAS on the razors, does it help??? I don't know for sure but I have no rust problems or scale problems...
I also wipe the blades with WD-40 after every shave but I have a rather large rotation besides the days I test shave others honed and restored blades so my personal razors sit for longer then most .....

For my razors that sit a long time between use I use A.G Russell no rust. Its a very thick silicon based protectant for guns, knives razors and works great.
