I have about ten razors.
I love them all.
I can use only one at a time, and shave every other day.
Why do I find myself constantly looking for new razors??????

It's not the acquiring bit that bothers me... it's picking out the lineup for the week.
Welcome unnamed disease in razor world .Addiction my friend .
Problem is You are not only one.
We all in it.
Please PM me when you have answered that question because I have asked myself it for some time now. I chalk it up to not being able to resist a good deal. I'm on ebay as I write this looking for "deals".
Yes, good deals are the killer....sometimes I'm tempted to look on ebay but don't for fear of some kind of AD (i.e. RAD or HAD) taking control of my hand and FORCING me to bid on something....It's happened on a number of occassions. I've thought about getting a prescription for it, but realized the only prescription for a disease this bad is more money!:rofl2:

They're beautful things. Each one feels different, both in your hand & when shaving. They have different balance, blade shape, scale material, shape & size. The metal each is made from & it's forging affects the sound & feel as they perform. The grind does the same, & countless other factors. We must try them all till we know what we want from our perfect razor. Only then can we entrust the skilled craftman to build the razor that combines all of these in one beautiful & perfect razor. Then, when we think of something else that would be cool, he can build us another!:D
Sorry, I don't know of any cure for this disease.. :rofl2:
Old Egyptian proverb-man with sore in his mouth can't stop rubbing it with his tongue.
There is no rhyme or reason to explain any acquisition disorder be it razors, watches, paperweights, cars or a thousand and one other things.
I do the same thing, I don't even know why. Everytime the mailman comes to the door, or I come in with a box, My girlfriend say's, "Is that a razor" and I say, "No, It's soap" and of course the razors in the bathroom seem to magically reproduce to which I have no explanation.
+1, I believe this is the most likely reason... Every blade shape, size, and grind is different. I know I wouldn't buy 3 more ¼-hollow 4/8" razors, I'd probably just own one. (unless I really liked the look of it, of course :p)Quote:

I seem to have gotten over the acquisition disorders having acquired and restored a nice 7-day set of outstanding shavers, close to 6/8's erik antonbergs w/ ivory scales. I have one other 4/8 antonberg but haven't found myself using it lately, I sold all of my other razors, DD's a Livi and some others and only use these and plan on parting with the smaller antonberg as well but want to fix it up a bit with a semi-precious gemstone spacer and some silver pins before I do so. Don't find myself looking at razors anymore either.
I also got married and now have other expenses so buying more razors isn't exactly on the top of the list for me. My wife still calls my straight razors knives. I still remember "You shave with a knife?"
I have some other stuff to restore too but all I plan on parting with or using to practice hone except the 7 antonbergs.
I agree with thebigspendur. In my 60 years of ADs if it ain't one thing it will be another.
Ten?, 10? razors? Only 10?
Aha! we have a newbie!:roflmao
Worst thing you can do is set up a ebay acount! Then its all down hill from there. I still havent reached the bottom! What I hate is when its so good you have to bid on it.Then your almost relived if you loose then you feel like you tried anyway! There should be a rehab for this stuff!
Matt
There is a re-hab, it is called a straight shave go have one :rofl2::rofl2:
i planned on keeping it simple when i first started str8 shaving. it was not long until 5 razors later and still looking :w
I just want to try it. And I already have one that needs honed and two more coming. Got 2 jars of TGQ creams and a TGQ soap. And I haven't even used a straight yet! But, I have gotten the best shave ever with my Schmuck3/5 and a Gillette DE I have.
Part of my problem is reading posts from Members about their greatest razors. Whenever I read of that "perfect" razor-I must have one like it. Right now I own 7 1/2 razors (scale job underway on one). I rotate them by alphabet from: Baurmann to Wostenholm. It works for me. Bring 'em on! Robert
I've tried to cut back, even sold several. Somehow others just call my name with their siren song and I'm a goner. Resistance is futile.
Sera,
I'm amazed that none of the commentators/apologists has offered the simplest of solutions. Start shaving daily and you can IMMEDIATELY justify doubling your razor collection. Double, just like that. How does it go? One - TWO, one - TWO.
snicker-snack, my boy, snicker-snack :nj
I wish I could shave everyday. But I'm a BBS perfectionist, and when I get it that close the shave lasts too long to get a decent shave 24 hours later. It's been 14 hours since last nights shave, and I'm still quite close to BBS (I can start to feel the whiskers if I beaar down a bit...)
And I'm not lookin for justification for doubling my collection, but pondering why I feel the need to, when the razors I have each kick some serious a**!
If you found The Perfect Razor, would you be able to stop? Does such a razor exist?
I ask myself this very same question on an hourly basis. I have no answer for you. Happy Hunting!
The answer is simple. You keep looking because you know that there will be a razor out there that is just that bit more comfortable than your current favorite.
The time to worry is when you stop looking.;)
I hear you there. I like to set way too many snipes on a Friday and then spend the weekend realizing how much it would suck to win all of them. Then I am kind of relieved to not win any of them. My strategy now is to set the snipes much lower than I would actually pay, that way if I win them all I feel like I got an amazing deal.
I got lazy the other day and waited on a BIN because I wanted to save a few dollars by just sniping it. Well someone else snatched it and today I saw Glen post a pic of it, he got the deal there and I kicked myself very hard.
At least you are stopping at razors. I have bought a scroll saw, invested in some exotic woods, bribed a professional hobby furniture restorer and spent probably $1000 om tools, sandpaper, and materials for restoring these things. My next purchase is going to be a band saw. The only problem I have is that if I hit the lotto, I would stay in med school and graduate to restoring razors. As dumb as it sounds, I would rather restore these than watch a movie in the theatre. I feel its a productive way to spend time and believe it or not, I want to do surgery, and I have noticed that when I look at things now, I can see finer details than I could before I got into this.
So keep up the addiction. I have about 25 razors to restore and sell then I am going to buy more. I just wish these guys would stay off ebay so I could win more!
I've only been shaving with a straight for a little more than a week. I thought I would only want/need one razor, and i've already purchased another, and I'm constantly on the look out for others. Either the SRP is the best or worst thing that has happened to me. My girlfriend thinks the latter...I'll prove her wrong!
