Thanked: 953I made the mistake of catching a razor that I dropped. OWCH. took so long to get that to stop bleeding.
Now:
1. I always keep my razor hand dry throughout the shave.
2. I practice jumping away from the sink so that I'll have the right reflex reaction if it happens again.
3. I NEVER shave without underwear.

So while you are staggering around trying to avoid passing out from blood loss, you call to the wife, "Quick, get the camera. I must take a photo for the forum!"

Follow the rule of the kitchen. Always wipe the blade sharp side away from you.
I cut the end of my finger off once in the kitchen. Bled for 3 hours while I prepped 1 handed, the other over a garbage can with 3 latex gloves on. The ER burned the end of the finger closed.

Every time I read one of these stories I am reminded that the German word for a straight razor is literally translated as shaving KNIFE. We all handle knives with extreme care and are reminded that we should treat our razors with the same caution.
Glad to hear you were able to get your wound stitched up promptly.

LOL, now that's just funny!!
I've only seriously cut a finger one time. I was carrying a large piece of glass that just flat broke for no reason. It laid open my right pinky like a fine filet. Now I've never been squeamish about blood, gore, or needles, but I must admit, I about had an out of body experience when the Doc stuck me with the needle to numb the finger before the stitches; it *hurt*, and it hurt *really bad*. I told the Doc I felt like a whimp. He replied that 75% of all the nerve endings in your body are in your finger and toe tips (yeah, everyone knows where the *other* 25% are, right? ).
Moral of the story: if your finger hurts alot and you feel like a whimp, don't. There's alot of very angry nerve endings there that aren't a bit happy about being sliced in two.
Heal up soon, man.
