    Default Red Imp

I won a "Red Imp" Razor made by Case on ebay and I just received it. The spacer appears to either be loose or it is used as a lock? It is just a hair larger than the scales and when it lines up with the scales, the razor will not come out. If I rotate it slightly, then the blade will come out easily. Can anybody assist me on this?

It's loose. It shouldn't interfere with the blade at all in case it causes damage. Do a search for tightening the pin. Get it in position & tap the pin tight. If you really wanted you could sand the wedge back in line with the scales, which sound as they may have shrunk slightly over the years.

This is common with Red Imps. I have both a Case 132 and Morris 133 and the scales on both have shrunk, lengthwise.

A big plus one on scale shrinkage. I've had a few of the Case Red Imps come through my hands, and they seem quite prone to shrinkage.

I think they also used a low quality glue, as loose spacers seem to be very common.

Very odd. I just bought one at an antiques mall, and it has the same problem. The blade looks brand new, though. I'm hoping I can shave back the spacer as a fix. Has anyone had any success doing that??

Instead of shaving my spacer, I just rotate it a bit when opening and closing the blade. You should be able to shave it with a narrow file without depinning, but I don't have a file that would work.

If I was going to go all out, I would depin, file, remove all the terribad glue they use, and reglue the spacer on reassembly.

Yes it works very easily once the wedge is tight, all you need is a hack saw blade... very gently just cut it back to fit again...

DO NOT CUT TO FAR if the blade is past the pin it will not work....

    Slow and easy

I can help out Scott. Send me an email or give me a call. I have needle files that may help. On the few I have I found the same problem. I just put the spacer into it's proper position, tightened the pin and put some Crazy glue on a tooth pick and applied it to the inside of the scale where it meets the spacer. Seems to be working. On another brand the I filed the spacer down using a needle file. Just be careful not to file the scales with the other sides of the file.
