Ducks Were Made By Dovo ?
I posted this in the razor forum because the auction where I got this info from has nothing to do with the subject. In the auction this thread is about on the Dubl Duck Satin Wedge the seller claimed it was made by Dovo. It appears to be a bona fide duck that we know and love.
Since he is from Germany and may know whereof he speaks I sent in a question asking where he got his information and if he was sure that it was a fact. Here is his reply ;
"Hi Jimmy,
some years ago i got this information from
some old scilled
craftsmen here in Solingen,
that all DD are made by Dovo in
Solingen.
That`s all what i know.
Best regards from Solingen Thomas"
So maybe they were at least for some of the time. One thing I notice on my Ducks is that they don't have jimps where my Fritz Bracht Dovos do. I have two Puma ducks and they don't have jimps either but the regular Pumas do. Doesn't mean anything I guess. Just thought ya'll would like to know so I threw it out there.Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 77Interested on hearing the discussion on this.
One thing though. I believe it to be a pretty universal human trait (even in Germany) that "I heard that from some guy who knew some other guy that was an authority so it must be true".

Yes I thought of that too. It is not the first time I have seen speculation about who made what for whom. Nelson has pointed out more then once that Bresnick, Bresduck, and Pearlduck didn't manufacture anything but were the owners of the brand name and the distributors. At least that is what I think he said and I think that is right.
When I look at the 4 Dovos I have none of them remind me in anyway of any of the Dubl Ducks I have or have seen. FWE, some model Pumas, Beau Brummels and some C-Mons have certain things about them that resemble the feel of a duck for me but not the Dovos. Not for me anyway. I have a half dozen Pumas and in the OP I said they all have jimps. My model 75 is the only one that doesn't.Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 13245Dovo probably did make some DD's and some Puma's there are a few out there with double stamps,,, DD or Puma on one side and Dovo on the other...
Now that could be definite proof of them making the razor, or perhaps just perhaps, there was one company in "Solingen" that stamped more than one companies razors.... Hmmmm a conundrum there isn't it....

I seem to remember seeing a DD which was stamped "S. R. Droescher" on the back of the tang.
As Droescher's don't have a cult following, you can find them on ebay for reasonable prices...
Never mind.

I wouldn't go by what some guy heard through a bunch of other people. We know Puma made some and there are some French made ones and there was a relationship between them and Beau Brummel Werk and some were made in the U.S and there were a few others. I would suspect that through their history many manufacturers made razors for DD and its early relatives.
