    Default Information On This Razor

I have had this razor for 20+ years. It was my grandfathers and I recently rediscovered it. I am trying to find informaiton about it. How old, is it any good quality, should I have it restored and is it something I would enjoy using, etc. I have taken a couple pictures of it. Anyone with knowledge, I would be happy to hear from you.

    1. Henckels have a first-rate reputation.

    2. Your razor doesn't look like it needs restoration, get it honed (don't try to learn how to hone on such a fine razor) and a strop, then study up on the basics of straight shaving then dive in!

That's a real beauty! Great razor, great condition. As stated above- just send it out to get it honed. We could all be so lucky to start out like that.

    Wink

That's a fine razor, & even better as it was your grandfathers. I do love Henckels.

Welcome to SRP! As the previous posters have said, that is a real good razor in what appears to be really fine condition. Sending it out to Lynn or Glen would be what I would do if it was mine. You are one of the lucky few that can shave with a razor handed down through the generations. Not sure about the age, maybe the 1920s ?

If you want to dip your foot in the waters of straight razor shaving it is a good idea to do a little homework first. Here is a good read to start and here are videos on shaving, lathering and honing among other things. There is more important info in the SRP Wiki in the toolbar above.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
