    Default Antique Shop Finds 2/7/09

This is the second weekend in a row we went antique shopping and I think it's time to leave some for other interested parties before I get shot by CarrieM. Last weekend we a coticole/BBW combo, several other barber hones, a Geneva 6/8 square point and a Kohinoor as posted here http://straightrazorpalace.com/show-...n-get-you.html .

Yesterday we picked up a seven day set of Bokers posted here http://straightrazorpalace.com/razor...set-ivory.html .

But this post is about the other straight razor finds we purchased.

For your pleasure here are some pics (by JrJorD) of the 2 W & Bs, Joseph Roghers, 2 Peter J. Michaels Perfecto's we added to the stable. These should keep me busy for a little while, I hope.

They're all in great shape too! I must be going to the wrong places round here.
That last haul was very impressive too!

Going to the 'right place' is only a general way to find buys like we ran into lately. I have been looking at antique store straight razor hunting as a job. In doing that I try to put logic to the hunt. We have had a very cold winter with snow in a lot of weather reports. This keeps most people off the roads and out of the antique shops. Next, most of the shops we hit have numerous vendors in the same store so the items in the shop come from all over the area and sometimes all over the state. The more popular antique shops are on the main roads and in a business district. Smaller shops are in out of the way areas or between towns in less populated areas. It is in these smaller shops that I made our latest purchases. The larger shops were very crowded and had a very small selection that was over priced. We were out most of the day hunting and decided to stop at the last antique shop on a whim, not expecting much. It was on the way home. This is where we found the Boker seven day set. The five blades noted in this post were found in a shop between towns set off all by itself. The finds from the previous weekend were made in a shop well off the beaten path.

    Good luck in your hunts!

    Very nice finds.

I have also found better luck at the antique stores that are individual shops instead of the larger multi-dealer malls. The individual shops are also more likely to work on the price with you, where as the larger malls have more overhead and most of the time the particular dealer who's item it is, is not available.

What is your plan for all these razors you picked up? Are you restoring, rescaling? I'm rather new here so don't know everyone yet, sorry.

Everything I buy in straights are keepers to be passed down to my son. He's 14 and already using straights. He goes by JrJoeD here and takes all of the better pictures I post. These razors are in good shape. Other than minor rust removal they will get honed and put into use with the rest.

Thanks for you comments and questions.
