I like wood. There are many types of wood with varyign textures, grains and colors.
As an added bonus, I can work it myself to make new scales, using only cheap tools.
I also like mammoth ivory a lot, though I can't afford it.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

In case you haven't been able to figure it out yet– I like high tech synthetics. Carbon Fiber, G10, Micarta, etc. There's something about knowing that the scale material could outlast the razor that I like. It's almost a guarantee that the scales will never be falling apart. Ivory, hone and all that are nice, but they shrink and can crack over time. Woods are nice, but not nearly as durable as some other stuff.
All that being said, I voted for 'whatever fits the razor' because I do believe certain things look good on certain blades.

Personally, I say wood. I prefer Ebony myself.
But I have seen some razors with horn and bone handles that were carved beautifully. I wouldn't mind owning some of them, either.
I'm not that fond of the artificial materials, plastic and imitation tortoise and the like. Except for imitation mother of pearl. That's pretty much the only one.
But Ebony just looks and feels great to me. I like that one the best.

In woods I favor Cocobolo, Bocote and the Rosewood family.
Acrylics and the likes would go to Faux Tortoise, Paua backed acrylic and cracked ice scales.
In naturals I love most of them, MOP, Horn, Ivory, Paua shell, ...
Customer is king but for my own rescales I will use whatever material I find will match the razor.
