Puma 6/8 1937
Last week I bought a nice Puma but today I got it in the mail and I got some mixed feelings..
The good things:
Nice miror finish..
Nice etching
BIGGER THAN I THOUGHT IT WAS... never knew I was buying a 6/8 razor
I like that I know the age of the razor.. it is etched in the razor
Its a real puma
The bad:
a crack in the scales near the wedge
two chips one hardly noticable and one about a mm
So I started removing the chip... I didnt take photos as I got the feeling I had to help this poor kitty get back in shape.. after about an hour of honing, breadknifing, honing, breadknifing.. on the DMT-C and F the chip is gone and the razor is dull.. (breadknifed it a couple of strokes at the end to make sure the bevel needs to be reset on the DMT-E)
cleaned it up with soap and now it is just looking great,,
I will post some pictures later.. although I posted a picture here http://straightrazorpalace.com/razor...tml#post322704
cant wait to get that kitty honed and ready to shave..

Looks like a keeper to me! With all of the honing work you put into it you will always have a special place for it in your heart!

Bummer about the cracked scales and chips, if you didn't already know about them. Are the chips towards the heel?
Nice razor though. Congrats! Love the Puma's.

The chips where about an inch from the tip...
I've honed the chips out yesterday and after honing it tonight it should be ready for a shave..
I still have some work to do to remove the tarnish and some stains on the back.. but that can wait. a bit..just as the scales.

Just saw the pic. Now I can see why there was some breadknifing.

I shaved with it tonight and it was pretty OK.. I honed the razor with tape on the spine (well actualy ducktape) So I'm not sure if the edge touches the leather on my loomstrop..
The razor didnt pull or tug and I got an irritation and nickfree shave but I think it could be sharper.

You can loosen the tension on your loom strop a little and see if that helps. Other options may be to run it over paste of some type. Lastly, some have found that after a shave or two and the stropping to go with them, the edge levels out and gets a little smoother.

I bought a hanging strop last week but that doesnt seem to help.. I think I should just go back to the BBW and take it from there...or I could try CrO and see if that does something.
I think its just a small bit off in sharpness. It shaves without pulling or tugging but it needs a bit more pressure and the shave isnt all that smooth.
