Thanked: 41Do you oil your razor after every shave?
I read this post:http://straightrazorpalace.com/razor...eds-honed.html
And have also read that oiling a razor is only necessary if it not going to be used in say 7 days. Just wondering what the majority here are doing and why.

I always strop for 10 round trips after drying the blade with a tissue. I figure I am getting any micro gunk out of the striations . Then I wipe the blade with an Outer's Silicone Gun Cloth impregnated with an additional rust preventative. I'd rather be safe then sorry. Once you get a freckle in a mirror polished blade it is all over but the crying unless you want to polish out the whole thing.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I never oil my razors anymore and I never have even a hint of oxidation. I used to oil my blades with Sterol after every shave because I did have problems with oxidation. Here's what I changed:
- I do not store any of my razors in my bathroom any longer.
- I do my pre-shave stropping of the razor I'll use for that shave in the bathroom and then remove that razor again from the bathroom when I take my shower.
- I shower with the bathroom door wide open
- Only after building lather will I bring my razor in for the shave.
- I wipe the blade off well with a soft dry towel after the shave and I ALWAYS strop post-shave 30-35 times.
- Razor is returned to it's storage area away from any undue humidity.

Thanked: 335Final rise with about 180 degree water and a careful wipe with a cotton towel. Fold up with blade not contacting scales; no oil and strop in the morning. Store in bathroom and no rust so far.

every month or two. I use Militec1 and it's got good staying power. No rust yet.

Since I started to clean off the blade with good and hot water, leave to dry, and strop on linen I've had no problems with discolouration at all. It's a fairly small rotation at the moment though, so in the future?

Thanked: 278I was impressed with what I read about Ballistol, so I bought some, including the pen-type dispenser.
I don't need to oil my blades, but as I have the oil pen handy I put ONE drop of oil on my palm and strop the razor on my hand Mastro Livi style (but much slower)
Using such a small amount, I don't even notice the smell of the oil. Or maybe I've become desensitized to it?
