Thanked: 1recommendation for a 6/8
Hello everyone,
started using a straight in december and i am hooked. My first (and only) razor is a dovo 'special' 5/8 in tortoise.
looking to now purchase a 6/8. read the review of the dovo renaissance and am considering purchasing one.
Can anyone recommend another razor i might look at? would like to keep it under $200.
Thanks in advance
Kurt

I really enjoy my 6/8 Revisor (more like 13/16). Great shaver. Of course there are the newly made razors, but I don't have any of them.

W&B Bow's can get up to 6/8, if I'm not mistaken, and they are mighty fine shavers. A Bow would also let you try a slightly heavier grind, as they are about half hollow. You'd have to look around on the classifieds or ebay, though, as they cannot be had new.
The Wapi is another solid blade, but they are only 11/16. Also a heavier grind razor, and a French point to boot.

Thanked: 335kerik,
You could do worse than sizing up to the 6/8 Special. I did that a while ago when I decided that size mattered and graduated myself to 6/8 and 7/8 blades. That 6/8 DOVO Special with those fine, fine fake turtle grips is just a super razor.
good luck, good shaving

Thanked: 398If you want something cheap to see if you really like larger blades, get a Double arrow. $200 is a lot of money to put in if you're not sure what you want. just my own 2 cents here.

I like the TI 'Super Gnome' here.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 953I'd go on ebay, do a search on "solingen razor" and pick up a fun NOS or nice shape 6/8 - like maybe a worldmeister. It would get you into the vintage razor kcik and probably save a little cash and give you a razor with a little personality.
If you want a heavy grind, grabe a le grelot 6/8s from Martin at rasurpur or follow the guidance on the Bow.

Thanked: 1Gents,
Thanks for the responses. After a couple of days cooling my jets i think i will take the advice of buying a few razors to see what i really like before spending a considerable amount.
Would like to try a W&B Bow, so if anyone is selling...

Wise move IMO. There are so many great vintage straights out there and they shave so so sweetly.

RasurPur Online Shop has some nice Le Grelots left in 6/8 that you might want to take a look at
