Default The Fisher by Paul Kohl

    My new black mamba!
The tang says '"The Fisher" for Quality' and Paul Kohl Germany. The blade is 11/16 wide and it is "very hollow". During shaving, it sounds almost like Otto Deutsch and has the texture of old pergamen. It is a great shaver and gave me a smooth BBS this morning.

There is very little information available about these razors. I would be very thankful for any data.

PS: Any tips how to make the blade *darker*?

    Great find!
I picked up a similar Fisher at a Scottsdale AZ antique store a few months ago. To my surprise, it is the smoothest shaver in my herd! There is a little pitting, but the edge is incredible and the scales are fine. I am happy with it as it is and it will stay in my rotation. I was not able to find out much about the maker, except that Manfred (Manyrazor) told me that there were TWO makers of Fisher razors in Germany, with slightly different trademarks. One was supposed to be much better than the other. If you are interested, I will dig up the e-mail and let you know which trademark is which. I think that we both have good ones.

When I was a kid and wanted my pocket knife to look like the old guys knives I would cut tomatoes with it whenever I ate them. The acid in the tomato will turn carbon steel black. Just cut the tomato and let the juice sit for a short while and then wipe the blade off. It'll turn black before too long. Nice razor BTW.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

    Hi Croaker,
Thank you! I knew that the blade would be outstanding when it passed a HHT test before I took it to the hones! Regardless of its unpleasant appearance, it maintained its sharpness for decades except for a few rust spots on the edge. The Fishers must be a well kept secret because mine is taking over the best shaver's spot in my collection (and I have aces like Otto Deutch or Geo. Wostenholm). I would be very interested in Manfred's email. The "man with a fish" logo on mine is similar to yours; but the manufacturer's stamp has an oval shape on mine.

Congrats. I sold a Fisher to a new member here. It was a killa shaver as I remember.

To make it darker, a very dilute mix of oxalic acid crystrals in water (10:1) or less will work but it won't darken evenly due to differing areas of oxidation.

Ironically to get an even black finish you'll have restore the blade to at least a nice satin polish.

Thank you, gents; your suggestions are much appreciated. Shall we start a new club, "The Fisher's Friends"?
