Thanked: 18Demascus or Carbon?
I am having a Robert Williams custom razor made for me. I am sure that I want Ivory scales and a black spacer with a half hollow 8/8 blade with barbers notch. What i cant decide on is the steel type. I am between his carbon steel or demascus. He tells me his carbon steel sharpens up to a sick edge. He tells me he would put it up against anyother steel. I love the look of demascus but i also love a mirror polished carbon. I just cant decide. Can you guys help me out with some ideas. pros/cons of both. thanks before hand Its only $100.00 difference

As far as shaving goes it makes no difference so its all cosmetics. Get the one you prefer. Just remember when you hone the damascus you need to do some taping or you can hone off the lines and then have to reconstitute them.

Personally, if I was unsure about any aspect of a custom razor I would either defer to the maker or hold off until I was more sure about what I wanted.

How many Damascus steel blades do you already have? How many shiny ones? Are you interested in something extraordinary or "yet another daily user"?
If I was shopping for a custom made razor, I would opt for all the bells and whistles - including Damascus.

Thanked: 235I was going to say I think carbon steel would be the better choice. But having read some of the other responces I would say go with what ever you don't already have.

Thanked: 13Based on a couple of the RW Damascus blades I have seen. The choice is clear! Damascus with the ivory will be stunning!
