Hargreaves Smith & Com Imperial Razors Sheffield??
Hello gentlemen,
I have recently ordered this 7/8'' hollow grind Sheffielder from Jon at Jon's Swords and I cannot find any information about it.
Does anyone know anything about this manufacturer or its razors? I hope I have the name right.
Thank you.

From Goins Encyclopedia of Cutlery Markings: "Hargreaves Smith & Co. Sheffield c1866-1920. 28 Eyre Lane, Sheffield England." Looks like an early, and nice one! Should make a great shaver. Are you going to rescale it?

Thank you, Croaker. I was initially all about rescaling this one, but my opinion is changing. The scales are buffalo horn, I would like to salvage them if possible. They have a personality and I quite like the pins. They do not make them like that any more.

It's a beauty! I'd stick with the original scales too. Since they're cracked they'd probably get damaged trying to remove them. The pins are fantastic too! There is a German fella on the bay who actually makes highly detailed pins with a jewellers lathe. Not had any from him yet, but he looks highly talented.
You got it for a great price.

Thanked: 735Nice!
Are the scales cracked?
If they are, you can stabilize them with some superglue. Restoring horn scales is as simply as a little high grit sanding and then some oil (do that after any possible crack repair, or the superglue won't stick!)
I agree with your descision to keep them on that particular razor.
I imagine that will be a champion shaver!Last edited by Seraphim; 02-25-2009 at 05:11 PM.

Thank you, gentlemen. The scales have a crack but I hope that a little bit of glue will fix it.

Here is a picture of the razor as posted in the SOTD thread.
It is a very sweet shaver indeed. The blade is massive yet very hollow ground and it rings on strop. The scales are rather thin, wide and round; cracked but solid and without bug bites. I am happy!
