Thanked: 953spontaneous blade warping
I picked up my simple 5/8 friodur the other day and noticed the scales were a bit warped. The blade closes perfectlh right down the middle, so it's never been a practical issue. I have had it stored in a classic shaving plastic coffin and stored on sideways (so the razor would be resting on the gap between the scales like it would in a razor box). My guess is it was alwasy warped and I just never noticed because it closed perfectly, but has anyone had one just warp sitting in a box? I live in boston so I'm not in the amazon rain forest or anything.

Thanked: 37My Dovo Astrale scales warped over a period of two years. Eventually the blade started hitting the side. now I have to be careful when I close it. No big deal.

If I am not badly mistaken I have seen Glen mention that stresses caused by the pinning of the razor, especially three pin models, can cause the scales to warp over time.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 953that's definitely true. Have that issue wiht a three pin C-MON HF. I've been able to relieve it somewhat with oiling and steaming the scale near the pin in question and bending it back a bit, and it's has helped alot.
my friodur is a two pin. I've only had it a couple months so I think I was just an idiot and didn't see the warping because (somehow) it's not affecting the lie of the razor in the scale. it's my second favorite razor anyway (behind a puma with slightly warped scales) so no biggie.

Thanked: 3164Just a thought, but some of the worst warped scales I've seen have been on razors with a wedge that is tapered on just one side. I think that might stress one scale more than the other. The examples I'm thinking of had a severe taper to the wedge - on the wide end you could see where the bit between the scales is at a 90 degree angle to one scale but not the other.

Neil
