Thanked: 77The fabled Pocket Engels!
Legendary. Engels only made 2 of these and was buried, by his request, with one of them in his shirt pocket.
Want that Meat Chopper look without all that cumbersome bulk?
Got cauliflower ears because you never know where that tip is when trimming your sideburns?
Tired of that tedious X stroke because your hone is only 2.5" wide?
Always wanted to carry your razor in your shirt pocket but the end sticking out scares your fellow office workers?
Want something absolutely unique?
This is the razor for you! The auction will have a reserve of $2,300. As a pay-it-forward to SRP I'll let it go here, pre-auction, for $1,800 (members only please). Yes, it's shave ready

Thanked: 335U,
I agree; that's a very, very nice razor. And did you notice those handsome, marvelously transluscent, natural turtle scales? That old Friedrich was some razor maker, that's for sure.
Yup, a maestro of his time.
Need any help shoveling?

Thanked: 77It was pretty bad. each time I went to cut down the scales they'd crack or another chunk would break off (and I set one of them on fire once). By the time I figured out the only way to cut them is to file though them that's all I was left with . The tip actually clears! I had to cut down the spacer to where the hole the pin goes through is only a semi-circle now . I was afraid to drill the hinge hole any closer to the edge.
I was done with the blade... one more failure with those scales and the new ones would have been cut out of a clear sheet of flat lexan I have laying around.
I've decided celluloid sucks. They instantly chunked off when I tapped the pins out. They were all warped and twisted so I dropped them in a pot of boiling water... they get SOFT instantly... then they get all chalky and you have to sand that off. If you use a power tool on them they melt (and catch on fire almost immediately after that). I think if I ever try to make a set of real scales they'll be made from G10 or something else bullet proof.Last edited by Quick; 03-08-2009 at 07:37 AM.

Thanked: 156LOL!!!
I laughed so hard when I read your post! At first I thinking "what the **** is this thread going to be about" then I saw the pics. Looks like you won the fight!
Sounds like a big ol' battle with them scales too!
Wish I had pics of the broken blade. Let me see if I can pull up a pic of the rusted up blade...Vintage Lot of 3 - Cut Throat Straight Razors - eBay (item 320342561706 end time Feb-25-09 09:00:31 PST). Grrr. protected images, had to direct link.
