Thanked: 235Anyone have experience with a Swedish razor?
Hi all,
This is my recent purchase on ebay. I was wondering if anyone else has any experience with shaving with Swedish steel?
This razor is a Vom Cleff and Co New York. On the other side of the tang it says Made in Sweden. I looked up some info on line about Vom Cleff. Turns out they were an import business in New York mainly importing razors. I'm going to try this one tomorrow morning, but I'm impatient. Can anyone tell me of their pleasant experience or otherwise with Swedish Steel?
Cheers,
Nathan

I've shaved with a few different blades from different Swedish makers. All have been first class shavers; I would assume yours will be too.

I loooove Swedish steel. They have a particular shave and feel to them. They shave great if and when properly honed and are amongst my favorite steel and razors. Much more than Sheffield steel. My face seems to favor them
Yours seems it will clean up and hone up really well. Good catch.

Actually Swedish Steel is one of the major steels used in straight razors no matter where the actual razors were made. Probably the question should be how do razors made in Sweden shave? The answer to that is very good.

+1, I don't know if it is true but I have been told that the famous Sheffields of yesteryear were made from Swedish steel. Many old Solingen and Sheffields were stamped as such. I love the Heljestrands and other Swedish made razors I have. Not a lemon in the bunch ....... and I have a bunch.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
