There is NO cure!
It never goes away. No matter how hard you try to resist there is always some razor you have never owned before or some deal that's just to good to pass up. Even when there is no way you can justify buying another razor, someone waves such a sweet deal under your nose that you are overwhelmed by the heady aroma and RAD rears its ugly head and you reach for your wallet.
I was in an antique store today (whose location shall remain undisclosed) and found a barber's razor box in nearly new condition, containing seven razors, three scissors, four barber's licenses, and various parts for electric clippers. Included with it was a framed barber's license from 1932. How much? $35 (plus tax).
Included was a like-new Kobar (Monday from a seven-day set), two Union Cutlery (Olean, NY) wedges, two spikes from the same maker, a "dwarf-type" razor only marked Solingen and the rusted hulk of another Kobar marked 'Tuesday'.
At another dealer's booth I came across six razors wrapped up in a plastic bag with an asking price of $18. There were two W&Bs, a nice Wostenholm pipe, a nice Joseph Elliot with a barber's notch, a ratty old Petrus Saad, and a really odd looking home-made razor. I hope this will get that razor wielding monkey off my back for a few days, anyway. Regards - Walt
