    Default Finally found a razor!

Shortly after discovering the SRP I casually started looking for a str8. I finally found one today on a workbench with a lot of $1 each tools. I spent a couple hours cleaning it up but only brought it to a point in the event it's junk. I believe the scales are cocbolo. It may be of interest that it looks like it retains its original price tag and appears to read 50¢. I was looking at my 1908 sears catalog and this seems about right. You could purchase a marginal German razor for as little as 30¢ or spring $2 for a personalised razor with your name etched in gold. Does this look like it could be a user or is the proof of the pudding in the tasting? Thanks for your opinion, Jeff

Yeah man, get somebody here to hone it for you and you may have a good shaver on your hands.

Seems about 1.5x above the cheapest, or 4x less the most expensive, so I'd say Sears thought them to be decent quality. How would it work today - the only way to tell is to try putting an edge on it. Best option is to pay somebody with the equipment and the experience to do so.
Chances are it will be a good one.

The scales look like a simple dark wood. Cocobolo looks different.

    +1, get it honed

Thanks! It's hard to see the red in my pics but I had first thought it to be ebony or something other. Well when it rains it pours and Sat. another German razor rained down on me. It had very little rust but it's amazing how long it can take to remove very little rust. While I am a die hard do it your selfer I'm sure I'll follow the advice of all those that suggest having a razor professionally. In addition to a benchmark example, I'm anxious to give it a try. After having spent many hours attempting to hone out all the pitting on my newest razor it would be a bargain at any price.
